Malaysian Association of Speech Language and Hearing
Tomorrow we are welcoming Melissa Peters for a Talk entitled "Speech Therapy"
Let's just try to find out more about the speaker as well as what to expect from it.
Melissa Peter received both her undergraduate and post-graduate training at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. After graduating from her baccalaureate program she worked in Singapore, in a special school set-up where she gleaned vast experience. A couple of years later, she relocated to Kuala Lumpur and was employed within a private practice establishment. Upon completion of her Masters program she set up her own private practice. As a speech-language pathologist, Melissa has worked with adults and children exhibiting the whole gamut of speech, language and hearing difficulties. She has a special interest in working with families wanting to help their speech and language impaired member. The focus of therapy for her is on the ability of the family to work with their communicatively challenged member. Her areas of interest remain with pediatric speech and language disorders and adult fluency disorders. Melissa especially enjoys the challenge of working with children with attention and behavioral difficulties.
She has in the course of her experience written articles for local magazines, newspapers, presented at conferences and seminars, run various training sessions with parents, caregivers and teachers, as well as given talks to various groups of people on the different aspects of speech-language and hearing. She has on various occasions lectured at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and has written a book, "Talk About Talk" which esentially combines speech and language facts with practical advice for parent's living today's highly urbanized lifestyle.
